With us, the circle is complete.
We organize sustainable cleanup activities on beaches and riverbanks. A lot is already being done worldwide to combat plastic pollution, but a large proportion of the collected plastic still ends up in open landfills today.
We go a step further. We don’t let this difficult-to-process waste go to waste either: through advanced thermal processing, we convert it into oil – back to the original raw material. In this way, plastic regains value instead of becoming an end point.
Our processing capacity grows every year, allowing us to handle ever larger volumes in a sustainable manner. Every recycled quantity is accurately recorded and certified, fully aligned with applicable CSRD and ESRS obligations. Transparent, measurable, and with demonstrable impact.
In Western Europe we properly separate our waste. We throw plastic in the right bin, thinking: “Good job.” But why does our waste then wash up on beaches in Turkey, Thailand or the Philippines?
After collection, plastic ends up at sorting companies. There it is separated by type and recyclability. But… about 40% is not recyclable.
Examples of problem plastic:
Chip bags and coffee packaging consist of multiple layers of plastic and metal – not recyclable.
Bread bags with a paper outer layer and plastic inner layer cannot be separated.
Black or dark plastic is not recognized by sorting machines and ends up on the waste pile.
Yet manufacturers continue to make these types of packaging – because they stand out on the shelf. Marketing wins over sustainability.
Not all plastic we sort stays in Europe. Only a part is actually recycled. The rest? It takes a long, polluting journey to foreign countries.
Only 40% of our plastic is properly recycled. As much as 60% is exported – often as “recyclable” – and ultimately ends up in landfills, incinerators, or the ocean.
From Europe to Asia… and back
In Asia the waste is:
Burned (resulting in toxic smoke)
Dumped or disposed of (often directly into the sea)
This leads to polluted beaches, sick residents, dead ecosystems and microplastics in marine life.
And ultimately?
It comes back to us.
In the air we breathe. In the fish on our plate. In the nature we want to protect.
